Creating a website may be one of my biggest projects yet and has been a doozy for sure! The whole notion of getting everything I've done in the past 10 years or so up "on-line" sent a tidal wave over me and I was completely overwhelmed. I really didn't know where to begin, but begin I did. I talked with various folks about creating a site for me which turned out to be pretty expensive- thousands. So, being a do-it-yourselfer I got out my hammer and saw and got to work. I read many and various forms of "Websites-for-Dummies" and concluded that I was beyond a dummy, I was an idiot. On the eve of writing a check for thousands of dollars, I tried squarespace which seemed possible. Not wanting to struggle too much with another dead end, I contacted a few folks from their sample page and discovered this darling duo: Shelley Marie- a photographer and her huband Joe-a designer among other things. Although they lived across the country, I shipped books out, sent a few e-mails of my vision and... viola! Shelley took the awesome product shots you see throughout the site and Joe set up the framework and functioning so that I could upload my images and text. The cost was reasonable and they could not have been more helpful or charming. Another helpful source in this process has been the on-line classes from nicolesclasses.com and lynda.com, in particular the ones taught by Justin Seeley- who was kind enough to answer my questions. Because of these classes and ones I took at RISD, I was able to use photoshop and illustrator to create the other layouts throughout the site. I am SO happy with the end result! One foot in front of the other- it was baby steps for sure, but I got there in the end!
